Digesting Vision 2030 - Getting Started
The Kenya Vision 2030 document was launched with much funfare last week (June 2008). This is the ambitious blueprint that shall guide Kenya over the next 22 years. It is the duty of every Kenyan to educate themselves about the vision and figure out what they can do to get Kenya there. My journey has just began. Firstly, you need to obtain the document from the following URL. If you get a more updated version of the PDF, please let me know. Having read Jim Collins book, "From Good to Great", I'd highly recommend that you also get a copy of the book. In his terms, the vision 2030 is a Big Hairy Audacious Goal - BHAG.
My initial attitude towards the vision is that it was a government thing - a planning document that determines how the government spends my taxes and makes me live with it whether I like it or not. I had very strong points against a document I had not yet read. But then scope of the vision is quite far (most of these politicians might never live to see that day) so i decided I'll find out what is in it and play what part i can - or atleast criticize it from a point of knowledge.
As Peter Drucker once said, the greatest business opportunities are those associated with change - especially unexpected change. Kenya is proposing to change course in fundamental ways over the next 22 years - dont you want to find out what opportunities she is creating for you?
I'll be posting my comments here as I chew on it. But one of the very first things proposed is 3 resort cities - one in the north coast, one in the south coast and one around Isiolo. I have alot to read ...
